In a world where many living creatures exists, devouring one another is only natural. In order to survive, one must eat to live. With this in mind, physicality is the only thing that matters in this world.

However, one stood up and made others quiver at its presence— humans.

Even though they are physically inferior compared to other creatures, humans rose to the top because they are the most intelligent creatures on planet Earth.

‎ ‎However, humans have created a moral standard — humane & inhumane. In an ecosystem where humans dominate, animals have become of a lesser social issue of concern.

Philippine Eagle

Also known as the Haring Ibon, the Philippine Eagle is one of the most powerful aerial predators in the world. Sadly, it is critically endangered, with only around 400 pairs estimated to remain in the wild, according to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). One of the most well-known individuals of the species, Pag-asa, was the first Philippine Eagle bred and hatched in captivity. He became a symbol of hope for conservation but passed away in January 2021 due to Trichomoniasis and Aspergillosis.

Tamaraw

The Tamaraw is the largest land mammal in the Philippines and the only wild cattle species native to the archipelago. It was declared the national land animal of the Philippines in December 2017, highlighting its cultural and ecological importance. According to the IUCN, the Tamaraw is critically endangered, with a total population estimated at no more than 580 individuals remaining in the wild.

Hawksbill Turtle

‎The Hawksbill Turtle, one of five marine turtle species in the Philippines, is critically endangered according to the IUCN, with its global population declining by 80% over the past decade. In the Philippines, their survival is further threatened by poaching for meat and shells, as well as rising sea levels.

Dugongs

Dugongs have been listed as vulnerable on the IUCN Red List since 1982, with around 100,000 individuals found in the waters of about 40 countries. While globally present, some populations face more severe threats—such as in China, where dugongs are now fully extinct—due to habitat loss, pollution, fishing net entanglement, boat strikes, and other human-related impacts.

PHILIPPINE COCKATOO

Locally known as katala, abukay, agay, or kalangay, the Philippine Cockatoo is critically endangered due to illegal hunting and habitat loss. According to the IUCN and a 2016 BirdLife report, its population has sharply declined over the past three generations, with only about 650 to 1,120 individuals remaining, including 430 to 750 mature birds.

PALAWAN PANGOLIN

‎Locally known as Balintong, the Palawan Pangolin—also called the scaly anteater—is critically endangered and considered the most threatened pangolin species, as it is found only in the Palawan Islands. Heavily hunted and trafficked for its meat and scales, the species faces a steep decline, with 7,000 individuals seized in 2019 alone.
